Movie #6 : The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Guys, I was so excited to be able to see this film. I have been waiting because by the time I came home from college, it was out of theaters. And then it cost 20$ to watch on any streaming services and my mom wasn't about to pay more money. But it was on the plane to France, so I began to watch it on the way there and completed it on the way back since I was too tired. "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was fantastic, and I loved it and I will tell you all about it.
Made earlier in 2023, this animated movie was released to a generation that grew up playing Super Mario Bros. on DS and Wii Super Mario Kart. This movie was made for nostalgia and fully accomplished that. While watching, I recognized all the characters from the games, all the places, and even Rainbow Road. It felt like I was a kid again playing these games. It was a truly fun watch I recommend for people of all ages.
It was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and made over $1 billion in the box office. I would have expected no less. Starring Anya Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael as Toad, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. With a stacked cast like this, it is sure to be an amazing film. Unfortunately, Chris Pratt played the main character Mario. That was my main disappoint of the movie. Chris Pratt is a problematic person who I do not support. I really wished that they would not have cast him because there are so many other options to choose from.
In this movie, Mario and Luigi are brothers who just started their own plumbing business in Brooklyn. On their first job, they fight a dog which causes most of Brooklyn to be flooded. In trying to save Brooklyn, they are sent through a portal that brings them to another universe. On the way, they get separated. In this alternate universe lives Princess Peach, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. In her world, Bowser and his league of Koppa Troppa's are slowly conquering other kingdoms to rule this universe and he is coming to the Mushroom Kingdom next. Mario gets dropped off in the Mushroom Kingdom while Luigi gets dropped off with Bowser. How will Mario save this universe and his brother? Watch to find out.
This movie is truly on for the ages. I remember when it was coming out and there was a red-carpet event for it. Many of the actors dressed according to their characters. Taylor-Joy was in a pink Power-Ranger-like suit, Pratt and Day were in matching red and green suits, and of course, Jack Black had fire pants on and a pointy shell back. I love him.
"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was animated very well and the plotline was very good, easy to follow and had funny moments. If in need of a silly movie, this is one to watch.
Still not convinced BBG
