TV Show #2: What We Do In The Shadows

 I am sick to my stomach writing this post. I love this show with my whole heart and to have it end feels like a piece of my heart was ripped out. This show was truly one of a kind and every episode made me love the show even more. Every character, every scheme, every season was so enjoyable to watch. There is no show that can compare. And I love vampires!!!

"What We Do In The Shadows" ran from 2019-2024 and was notably produced by Taika Waititi. The show had an all-star cast: Natasia Demetriou - Nadja, Kayvan Novak - Nandor, Harvey Guillen - Guillermo, Mark Prosch - Colin Robinson, and Matt Berry - Laszlo. Each character held such a place in my heart, I will write a little about them to send my love.

Nadja - What a hilarious and strong woman! As the only woman in the group for a while, she held firm against the men. She was undoubtably more intelligent and socially aware than the other vampires, not to major her fashion sense was amazing. Demetriou portrayed her so well. There is no one else who could have perfectly encapsulated a 100-years old vampire from Antipaxos. She had the most compassion out of all the vampires and her relationship with the doll version of herself was absolutely hilarious. 

Laszlo - He was an amazing vampire and loving father to baby Colin Robinson. He raised Colin and his monster to be such strong creatures; it was lovely to watch. The season of Colin as a baby were so funny I could not believe the writers thought of this! I also loved his stint as Jackie Daytona. Who could have known it was Laszlo! Not to mention the accent that Berry used was truly unmatchable. Such a fantastic spin on the character! 

Nandor - Truly the stupidest vampire he was. He treated Guillermo poorly and did not understand common social courtesies. Yet, he grew on me. I was really hoping for a Nandor x Guillermo love story which while it did not happen, made for great TikTok edits. His hair was also amazing. He was a goofy character that did care for those around him...when he remembered they existed. Nandor the Relentless will be relentless forever. 

Colin Robinson - If you have not seen the show, you are probably wondering, why is she calling him by his full name? Well because that is his name. Colin is an energy vampire which is just the most hilarious concept that I have not seen before, and I cannot imagine anyone but Prosch playing Colin. I loved when he was dating Edie trying to keep bureaucracy alive to being reborn as a baby for Laszlo to raise. He was just the funniest character ever and balanced out the craziness of the other vampires so well. His lines were perfectly delivered and never failed to make me laugh. 

Guillermo - My favorite. Guillermo, oh how I love you and understand you. You worked so hard for something just to end up not wanting the prize. You worked so hard to become a vampire that once you got it, you realized it was not for you. And that is ok. You are just perfect as you are. I love you so much. I wish I could give you a hug. Guillen is such a talented actor, he has such potential for a wide range of roles. I want to watch "Companion" just for him. Guillermo just wanted to be appreciated for all his hard work as he truly helped those vampires stay alive and unseen. He is such an important character to me. I will remember him forever.

Some memorable characters were The Guide and Sean and Charmaine. The Guide was great addition to the group and Charmaine and Sean were the Italian representation the show needed. I also enjoyed Derek, he was a cute friend for Guillermo.

In the end, there is so much to say about this so that I cannot some up into one post. I implore everyone to watch this six-season show on Hulu as soon as they can. It is such a unique piece of vampire media that all vampire enthusiasts like me should indulge in. And even if you are not a vampire lover like me, you should still watch. It will change your life.
